• The first five episodes of Netflix’s new reality show Age of Attraction dropped on Wednesday, March 11.
  • Vanelle Fenmou and Jorge Sanchez, who have a 33-year age gap, coupled up at the beginning of the series.
  • Here’s where the couple stands after the show’s first five episodes.

Because there aren’t enough reality dating shows in the world, Netflix has dropped a new one with quite a shocking premise. Like the streamer’s fan-favorite Love Is Blind, its new show, Age of Attraction, is a dating experiment—except it follows 40 singles as they couple up and decide whether they want to commit to their connection without knowing each other’s ages. The only way to discover how old their match is: to enter the “Promise Room” together. Ooh!

Anyway! The first five episodes dropped on March 11, and fans are already side-eyeing the largest age gap among the couples: 60-year-old attorney Jorge Sanchez and 27-year-old project manager Vanelle Fenmou. But was age just a number between them? Or did it affect the fate of their potential connection? Here’s where the couple stands at the end of episode five.

Are Vanelle and Jorge from Age of Attraction still together?

I know this is what you really came for, so I’ll get to the point: Vanelle and Jorge called it quits by the end of episode five.

So…why did Vanelle and Jorge break up?

Their 33-year age gap reportedly had nothing to do with their split. According to Vanelle, an off-camera “incident”—which involved an altercation with a man in the street—led to their romantic demise.

“We had an incident yesterday where some crazy guy comes walking up, you know, making threatening remarks. And I told him he better back up… So we exchanged comments, we exchanged remarks, and Vanelle took that some kind of way,” Jorge said.

Vanelle told a slightly different story, saying, “I felt uncomfortable in that situation, and I just felt like it could have been handled differently.”

The “incident” was the final straw for these two, but it definitely wasn’t the first sign of trouble. In the Promise Room, Vanelle told Jorge that she intended to stay celibate until marriage, and he later used this against her during an argument, complaining that she “controlled their intimacy” and wouldn’t allow certain things while hooking up.

Let’s not forget that Jorge neglected to mention that he had children until after they left the resort. And there’s the fact that Vanelle promised her father she wouldn’t date anyone over 40…only to end up with someone who was 60.

By the end of episode five, Vanelle confirmed that she and Jorge had called it quits, saying, “I don’t necessarily think it has anything to do with his age.”

There ya have it! The next three Age of Attraction episodes hit Netflix on Wednesday, March 18.
